Route 91 Festival

Hey Friends, I know it’s been a while since I have posted and now it may be a bit longer. My wife and I, along with two of our friends, were in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday when the shooting happened. We made it out and are all ok physically, but may take some time to mentally and emotionally recover.

All I ask is that you all sit tight and I will have more for you coming soon.

Haida Houseboat

Alright, I know it’s been a while since my last post, and I apologize, but life comes and goes in moments of craziness and moments of serenity. The last few weeks have been craziness lol. Anyway, I have a bunch of saved up ideas for posts that I hope to have coming your way in the coming week or so.

Today I want to share another Tiny House Boat. Technically it’s over 500 square feet so not a Tiny House, but still close enough.

The Haida Houseboat is roughly 600 square feet and is snuggled in a harbour in Seattle, Washington. It’s adorned with curved beams and arches and beautiful tiger-wood countertops. The 15’x40′ floating home boasts a 4’x14′ covered exterior deck and was listed for sale, and sold recently for $295,000.

Fenix Eco Cabins

I recently saw a comment on one of my posts from a man named Steven Vincent. He simply said “Check out Roatan ! I DID AND MOVE HERE 10 YEARS AGO !!!” I asked him if he meant the island in Honduras and he confirmed it was. He went on to tell me he has built two tiny homes there and is in the process of building four more on his own land. The best part is there are no bylaws or codes holding him back. That’s not to say he is cutting corners or building them shabby, because as you will see in the photos, they are built with some pretty heavy timber.

Hopefully he will provide us some more interior photos soon…Enjoy!

Check out the Fenix Eco Cabins page for more info & photos.

“Wolflahoma Lodge”

One of the things I love most about the Tiny Home craze is seeing other people’s tiny houses and for those of you willing to share stories, photos, etc I will publish them right here on my blog.

This one comes from Kirk Wolf and is appropriately named “Wolflahoma Lodge”. Wolf’s tiny home was featured on the DIY network show called “Building Off the Grid: Ozark Paradise” and will actually air again on August 27th at 12pm CST.

One of Kirk’s goals scribbled on a piece of paper was to “Buy Land, with a river (and be sustainable) off grid”. The dream (literally born from a dream) began with a sketch of the home and then became a blank canvas of land soon to be transformed into a home.

Kirk used a lot of reused & re-purposed materials that were destined for the landfill and him and some friends did almost all the work themselves.

A home slowly begins to take shape….

A dream slowly begins to become reality…

The home has some pretty cool ideas. Kirk has set up a blower high up in his home to take in air, blow it down underground through 400 feet of tubing and then back up to the home, exiting the tube at a controled temperature.

The finished product is a huge success that Kirk and his friends and family can be proud to say they built with their bare hands and a lot of love & friendship.

Tiny Towns?

Alright, this may be the biggest and most exciting news I have seen in a long time regarding the Tiny Home Movement… Turns out there is an organization, sorry, an “Association” that is being put together to plan, design and build “Tiny Towns”.

The idea comes from Edward Peterson, whose knowledge and past experience in construction, alternative energy, marketing and business will come in handy putting together the pitch for the tiny home communities slated to be erected across Canada. As most of you know, tiny homes in urban centers are a difficult pitch!

The basic idea is to create close to 60,000 tiny home sites in 133 Tiny Towns across Canada. Of the sites, roughly 5,392 of them are planned to be Social Program houses. The Tiny Town Association plans to create about 1,591 full-time jobs within the towns.

Right now they are looking for corporate sponsors, volunteers, etc to build up the Association. I have a feeling this could be huge!

Check out their website for more information and to sign up to keep in the loop.
